On the hills, a stunning white architecture, a few subtle touches of royal blue and as far as the eye can see, the Mediterranean Sea. This is how Greece could be portrayed. A territory with a thousand treasures, between charm and tradition. With nearly 6000 islands, 200 of which are inhabited today, Greece offers a magnificent panorama for our Plein Air artists. Sur les hauteurs, une architecture d’un blanc éblouissant, quelques touches subtiles d’un bleu roi et à perte d’horizon, la mer méditerranée. C’est comme cela que l’on pourrait dépeindre la Grèce. Our journey begins on the island of Skiros, in the small village of Agio Ioanis, with this beautiful watercolor created by Patrick de Font-Réault. There is a traditional chapel dressed in white and blue, the emblematic colours of the country.

Notre voyage débute sur l’île de Skiros, dans le petit village d’Agio Ioanis, avec cette belle aquarelle proposée par Patrick de Font-Réault. On y retrouve une traditionnelle chapelle vêtue de blanc et bleu, couleurs emblèmes du pays.

 

Vothonas by Georgia-Trypsiani

The famous island of Santorini and its still recognizable architecture is depicted here. Georgia Trypsiani makes us discover the small traditional village of Vothonas through this beautiful watercolor.

La célèbre île de Santorin et son architecture toujours aussi reconnaissable est dépeinte ici. Georgia Trypsiani nous fait découvrir le petit village traditionnel de Vothonas à travers cette belle aquarelle.

 

Baie-de-Vathi by PatrickdeFontReaulx

Let’s go now, to the island of Sifnos. In this art work, we find the Bay of Vathi, which, in the sun, is adorned with its most beautiful colours. The author used the technique of watercolor here.

Partons maintenant, sur l’île de Sifnos. Dans cette œuvre, on retrouve la Baie de Vathi, qui au soleil, se pare de ses plus belles couleurs. L’auteur a ici utilisé la technique de l’aquarelle.

 

End-of-the-day by Richard-Suckling

Simi’s island with its splendid colours at the end of the day, reminds us of holiday time. The artist, Richard Suckling, used Sennelier pastel softs here.

L’île de Simi, et ses splendides couleurs de fins de journée, nous rappelle le temps des vacances. L’artiste, Richard Suckling, a utilisé ici les softs pastels Sennelier.

 

Kameiros by Frederic-Peire

Rhodes and its antique remains. Here, the ruins of Kamiros, nestled in a green setting, facing the turquoise sea. Of this city created by the Dorians, only the foundations remain, spread over more than a kilometre. Destroyed by two earthquakes in 226 B.C. and 142 B.C., the new city was then ravaged by Cassius and his troops. The author, through this watercolor invites us to a journey full of history and exoticism.

Rhodes et ses vestiges antiques. Ici, les ruines de Kamiros, nichées dans un écrin de verdure, face à la mer turquoise. De cette cité créée par les Doriens,  il ne reste que les fondations, réparties sur plus de 1 kilomètre. Détruite par deux tremblements de terre en 226 av. J.-C et 142 av. J.-C, la nouvelle cité sera ensuite ravagée par Cassius et ses troupes. L’auteur, à travers cette aquarelle nous invite à une balade dépaysante et pleine d’histoire.

 

Plage-de-Naoussa by PatrickdeFontReaulx

To finish this overview, there is nothing like a lunch by the sea. And what better place to do that than Naoussa Beach, on the island of Paros. The author offers us here a watercolor rich in detail. Look at how finely the movement of the water has been worked.
