Juan Miguel Álvarez Pàez was born in 1971 in Pruna, Seville. He studied in Catalonia where he spent a big part of his youth. His artistic life changed when he met painters of the Gothic District of Barcelona, a meeting place for the bohemian artists of the 90s. Then, he moved to Figueres where he found out the importance to have his own artistic personality especially when he discovered the universe created by Dalí. In Figueres, he met the painter Evarist Vallés and met again one of his favourite artists Corvus, the best contemporary painter of the Gothic District of Barcelona to him. He came back to Andalusia in Marbella where he begun a family life and slowly returned to the life he wished to live, to be an independent artist far from fashion trends.

According to him, “the difficulty of the watercolor is the fact that you have to think a lot before starting to paint because there is no possible rectification. It is the only technique which allows to know if the artist is committed to what he is doing. This commitment must be real and not simulated, if it’s not the case, the rebel watercolor penalizes you.”

Juan Miguel Álvarez Pàez est né en 1971 à Pruna, Séville. Il a étudié en Catalogne où il a passé une grande partie de sa jeunesse. Sa vie artistique a changé lorsqu’il est entré en contact avec des peintres du Quartier Gothique de Barcelone, un lieu de rencontre pour les artistes bohèmes des années 90. Par la suite, il déménage à Figueras où il se rend compte de l’importance d’avoir sa propre personnalité artistique après avoir découvert l’univers créé par Dalí. A Figueras, il rencontre le peintre Evarist Vallés et retrouve un de ses artistes favoris Corvus, le meilleur peintre contemporain du Quartier Gothique de Barcelone à ses yeux. Il revient en Andalousie et s’installe à Marbella où il commence une vie familiale. Peu à peu, il retourne à la vie qu’il souhaitait vivre, être un artiste indépendant et éloigné des modes.

Selon lui, “la difficulté de l’aquarelle réside dans le fait de devoir beaucoup penser avant d’aborder une œuvre puisqu’il n’y a pas de rectification possible. C’est la seule technique qui permet de savoir si l’artiste est engagé dans ce qu’il fait. Cet engagement doit être réel et non simulé, si il ne l’est pas, l’aquarelle rebelle te pénalise.”
